Keeping Your Child Healthy

Keeping Your Child Healthy

Here are some simple strategies to help raise health-conscious children and teens.

With kids at home every day, it’s more important than ever that the family is focused on ways to keep their children healthy and free from illness. Fortunately, there are simple, everyday steps that you can take to ensure that your child stays healthy and happy. While our Houston, TX, pediatricians, Dr. Heena Thakkar and Dr. Shilpa Pankaj, can provide your child with proper checkups, screenings, and immunizations, here are some other ways to keep them healthy,

Wash Hands Regularly

It’s incredibly important to teach children how to wash their hands properly and to make sure they are performing it regularly. Washing hands is one of the best ways to prevent the spread of bacteria and viruses, and the action should be performed for a full 20 seconds.

Everyone should be washing their hands before meals, after using the bathroom, or after sneezing/coughing.

Promote Good Health Through Regular Exercise

Getting kids up and moving every day is incredibly important for preventing childhood obesity. Take time to put the electronics away and go outside and play. Whether you want to enjoy a family walk, bike, or hike around the neighborhood, or your kids want to play sports out in the yard, making sure that they are physically active for about one hour every day is important for maintaining good health.

Keep Up to Date on Vaccinations

Immunizations are the very best way for our Houston medical team to keep your child healthy and free from certain communicable diseases. Make sure that you talk with your pediatrician to understand which shots your child needs next and whether they could benefit from an annual flu shot.

Not staying up to date on immunizations can be dangerous to your child’s health.

Prioritize Your Child's Health

We understand that even during this pandemic, it’s important that your child receives the proper medical care, immunizations, and other preventive treatments that they may need here in Houston.
